Peter Chang Bangles

Peter Chang is a sculpter in plastics and a bit of a legend in my eyes!

Peter Chang primarily works with acrylic and PVC.  His pieces are like creatures from a planet we've never seen before!  He primarily makes jewellery, but the pieces are so exquisite they hold their own as sculptural objects.  Chang studied at Liverpool College of Art and Slade School of Fine Art in London.

I always looked at these pieces and thought how the hell are they made! Such an intensive process! The combination of the plastics creates such a beautiful effect and I love the mixture of textures and colours, these would definitely fit with the colour block fashion this season.

His website is so simple, a statement and images, he lets the work speak for itself.  He says "plastics, unlike some natural materials are basically characterless, anything you make out of them only adds."  He also says "I like the irony of making a permanent statement of an object to last, from materials designed to be thrown away."

Peter Chang's jewllery is in collections all over the world.  In a dream world, where I had endless amounts of money to buy jewellery, I would love to get my hands on a piece, but haven't found anywhere that sells them.  Does this mean that his pieces are so admired that you can't buy them, because they are all acquired for museum collections.  Don't get me wrong Museum collections are very important, but isn't jewellery supposed to be worn??  Thats a loaded question, bit too heavy for Friday afternoon!

Hope someone out there is wearing a Peter Chang masterpiece!  Have a great weekend!
