Commemorate

28 March 2012 (1 Comment)

Commemorate is The Craft & Design Collective's Annual Exhibition 2012 which is being shown at Space CRAFT.  Space CRAFT is the group's Shop, Gallery and Exhibition Area, up the escalator at The Fountain Centre, College Street, Belfast, from Friday 2 March to Saturday 28 April 2012, Monday to Saturday 10.30am to 5.30pm.

Commemorate is and exhibition selected by Kim Mawhinney and Elise Taylor, 2 of the Ulster Museum's Curators.  12 Designer/makers were selected and I was lucky to be one of them.

My piece is entitled Centenary”, it is a wall piece made from laser cut clear Perspex discs, heated and domed.  The pieces are then drilled and tied onto a curved acrylic rod with black rubber cord.
Centenary” has 100 clear bubbles, each one representing every year that has passed since the maiden voyage of RMS Titanic.  A great ship, built in Belfast, but with a devastating story.  The exhibition also includes glass, milinery, furniture, print, ceramics and jewellery.

I have posted some pictures of my process and the final piece, but get down to Space Craft to check out the entire exhibition, plus you can also vote for your favourite piece!  The exhibition continues untill the end of April.  More details can be found at the Craft and Design Collective website.
